About us

Nakivale Oruchinga Women Empowerment Association (NOWEMPA) is a women-led,
community-based organization founded in Nakivale and Oruchinga refugee settlements in
Uganda. The organization focuses on empowering women, girls, and children by improving their
livelihoods and access to essential services.
Women and girls in these communities face significant challenges, including limited access to
education, healthcare, and income-generating opportunities. Many also experience vulnerability
due to displacement and gender-based violence. NOWEMPA was established to address these
issues, with a mission to break the cycles of poverty and improve the lives of refugee and host
community members.
Through vocational training, entrepreneurship programs, financial inclusion initiatives, and
advocacy for gender equality, NOWEMPA equips women, girls, and children with the skills,
resources, and support they need to thrive. The organization fosters social cohesion and works
closely with community leaders to create sustainable change and empower families for a brighter
future.
